(Jun 1 06, 06:36)Never saw the first one but probably not. What's it for?

it's for a software product. Benten is a japanese name and want it to be simple, a little playful and incorporate some of the calligraphy.

i can't read it
- ian000
the "b" anf the "t" neither look like a "b" nor a "t".
- skt0
Nah, sorry don't like it. That might just be me though. It doesn't really say japanese calligraphy either. Just says trying to hard and not really pulling it off. IMO.
- ian000
i agree with skt. sorry.

... it looks like your off to that cave!
- monkeyshine0
bah. you guys are tough. thanks. off to my cave now.

it looks so much better. your n is the most successful. keep playing with the form and don't worry about japanese characters. the dots look forced (aside from the one counterspace dot)

this is good practice .. keep it up

I think you need to re-do the b altogethor. Flatten the bottom of both legs on the n. Give the e more height for the dot, or lose ther dot and do something else. Maybe keep the t.
To be honest I think that whole style looks dated and inconsistent. Why not just start with a nice fresh face and maybe make one or two tweaks to give it a bit of personality. It might give you something that holds togethor better.

trendy.

nice, but hard to read. too many "assumed" characters. i think if you make a more traditional "e" the whole thing will come together a little more.
i like your idea with the "b", but it doesn't seem quite perfect just yet. maybe the stem needs to be a little taller or something...i don't know. put more of a straight line somewhere in it.
