step away from the computer. Take a pen (or pencil) and a sketchbook and start drawing.
Force yourself to come up with ten ideas in ten minutes. Don't think just do. Chances are the first few will be rubbish but that's not the point. The point is to start thinking.
It very easy to have one decent idea and then think of ten variations on that idea but more difficult to come up with 10 new ideas.
If that fails, go the methodical route. I sometimes write lists of related images and concetps that relate to the project, then try and link 2 of them together to create a new idea.

Brits are always talking about "briefs"--that must be what it's like when you have a real design job. I have a few idiots who call up and say they need some piece of trifle fast. They don't know what it is, but they need it fast and cheap. There is no time or budget for thought.

Rand I have to do a title sequence for an animated movie in the next week or so and they said to me they want something 'slick' so I'm going to do something 'slick' they will of course be happy with what they get but by fuck what does slick mean?.

looks up crap 3D camera moves in aftereffects and scenes that have no discernable end or beginning. Only joking I'm going to do something with paint and masks and see what I come up with it'll be fun to throw paint around my studio :).
