how do you get in the mood?
i need some brilliant ideas for this movie and they're just not flowin' today.

go out for a walk, watch a movie, step away from the computer, look for similar things that your project has to do with, dont push, dont rush it, dont wing it...

In that sort of trouble, I usually go to bed and think on how the fork (htf) I cannot slumber. Half-drowned, and full of self-pity, some new layouts pop up betwitx some unheard -of scalpèd fellows from the east, and I fall asleep.
The next morning, I can't remember shit. That's when I invent the day before.

do not think on the movie. think on the plot. a movie's just a bunch of frames when you have a plot. maybe you're thinking about the whole movie but not the details of the plot.

But one should protest how people come here for ideas. That's part of the job you're paid to do and you shouldn't prospect within the community but bring the result into the datadadabase.

I thought your nutsack was so large it was just flowing out your mouth with ideas, or that is just the usual ego you present externally, what happened?
my advice is distance from the project, the ideas are there waiting for you, you just need to tune in, and pluck them from the ether.

this is really to winter, as I like the cut of his jib. - Do you ever ponder a complex brief, lying awake at night on it maybe, and it's like, its like you can feel the awesome idea there, the perfect concept is right there, it must be, you have interpreted the brief inside and out, back and forth, you are inside the matrix of this goddam project and yet it is not quite there, you must wait, lie there and wait, wait for it to come to you, you can feel it there, when wil it come? Oh when will it let your fingers pluck it so?

ah-em,
starting on a side note, I must kindly return the address from rasko4, that has spoken in such a quaint manner as the William Golding's nautical trylogy.
And no. I've never had a complex briefing (I plan those and I tend to simplify), although i'm presently desperate about producing a website for some architects that have no clue of what they want for they web presence. That's like teaching grammar to people who doesn't care about writing. I feel like i'm working on mid-ships on a tarpaulin apparel, knowing the storm, and them keeping a stupid laughter (that's nautical stuff). But that's how it works.
As to nightmares I can't say I have those, although I'm not interely an happy idiot: I usually go to sleep with my problems, and somehow a few layouts come up prior to the mosquito and the bite.

interely=entirely. sorry

look, rasko4,
you have a gig. you go in there with the common design plan and spent phrase and they just nail you down. POQ! < that's the hammer.
give them something they're not used to. words, new plans, in-job movies. they like that.

The only way to beat the block is to emerse yourself in something you enjoy. A book whilst listening to music a film that you haven't seen but you know is good. Or get out of the studio. Have breakfast in town with a friend and watch the world go by.

mags+artbooks+music+(eventually) weed or pot

I try to relax but with a creative director breathing down my neck it's not easy.
i tend to warm up by flicking through books/magazines on my way to work, flex those creative muscles.
