I don't really understand the point of being picky with what level you use with createMovieClip()
because I just used this statement
var container:MovieClip = createEmptyMovieClip("container... theLevel);theLevel was set to -15000in the previous statement, but the image i load in covers everything else in the movie. Is there a way to set the level? Do I have to use swapDepths ?

did you try a sample file with your main content on say _level5 and then loading into _level4 for example??

No. I had everything on separate layers. So, I guess that means _level0, since it was all on the _root. The problem I'm having is that I wanted to be able to actually tell the loaded movie to load on level -15000, which it ignores. So, I resorted to swapping depths with an invisible movie clip on the bottom layer of the _root

layer != level
difficult to get your head round to start with... but once you have... :)

oop: use empty movieclips [createEmptyMovieClip] as holders instead of levels. or layers.
