Anyone own one of the new macbooks?
Just wanted some first hand reviews. Thinking about getting one for my wife, who's going back to school.

it gets hot very hot, too hot to even touch, but this is easily fixable elevating it off the table.
its lightning fast, and all that adobe slowness is now un noticable.
its light weight and the remote control for everything is great. the built in camera is great if you have a geocities account then you aare golden.
and dont listen to jox he will tell you to get a pb g4 and crusts cut off.
blah!
:)

does it really run that hot?
Not worried about Adobe stuff running slow. This will mostly be for surfing and writing. No heavy design work.

it gets very hot jut under the screen where it bends, and near the area where you could rest your hands.
if you were wearing shorts your would get burned,or maybe thats your thing when you are writing and surfing.
i leave it on a lil too much probably...it never crashed cept tht one time when apple put out the faulty software security update.
i say go get it!!!

great. I can buy a laptop that cooks the 'boys'. Hmmm... maybe I should wait a month or two for them to fix it.

are you asking about the macbooks, or the macbook pros? e-pill sounds like he's talking about the pros and not the new ibook replacements
- Clear0
yeah, i'm talking about the ibook replacement. I don't need the pro right now. I've got another machine that I do all my design work on. This would be for casual use.

The hear has something to do with the vent being blocked supposedly.

"macbook pro pro's and cons" is just too hard to say...
I would get neither since there is no software for them, proffesional software, apart from video editing The pro gets really hot and noisy (the one ive used( and yes, there are already reports on the macbook getting too hot too with some ventilation parts blocked or something that makes it get even hotter.

" there is no software for them"
uh ?
Like what?
we've got office, office alternatives, adobe/macromedia, video editing
If you've got mission critical apps you need to run then boot into Windows.

I always thought the old pb's were too hot.
Awe well at least the new ones will heat the lap up in the winter.

Heat is a major issue, i config'ed one for a workmate yesterday and it got hot as buggery, i ended up putting it on a desk. i read somewhere that all of the new macbooks have the graphics processor under-clocked by about 30% just to keep heat levels down....
the camera is slick, the wireless config is virtually idiot-proof, the 13" macbook screen is quite nice tho still not the brightest, and i really like the keyboard. the stupid mousepad doesn't click with a finger-tap though, which bugs me.
the mag-connector is also a nice design. if you want to have kids, i would wait a generation til they sort out this heat problem though, cos yeah, it cooks your bollox.
