I was thinking of putting a video I made onto Youtube. I've never done it before. Does anyone know if the site compresses your file for streaming etc automatically, or is it best to add compression before uploading?

I know if you upload a movie with "portrait" view, it flips it to "landscape". Pisses me off a great deal I tell you!

youtube comresses it down.

Could you just set a wide canvas in your video editing program and throw your portrait sized content in the middle?
- rasko40
no CyBrain, it actually goes into the file and detects things like facial features, there is literally no way to fool it, I tried by filming mysef lying down but alas it still figured it out so your technique wont work, those youtube people are just way ahead of the game, its landscape or bust.

actualy, there is no portrait video, just pictures.
and if you want to publish a "portrait video", you must resize it to "landscape" height and add black bars on the sides for matching the "landscape" proportion of 4:3

(May 28 06, 14:48)White bars, You Tube defaults to a white background. If you frame it with white bars it'll look like it's supposed to be portrait.
Apart from the cruddy compression you'll get across it of course.
