I am going to san diego for work - it looks like i have a couple of evenings and one full day. Can anyone reccomend some places to check out - what shouldn't i miss?

sunsets at the sunset cliffs, pacific beach nightlife, downtown/gaslamp for countless restaurants, bars and art galleries, little italy for all the west village-esque hipster stuff, try to catch a game at petco park, balboa park for open space and tons of museums, la jolla....and a whole lot more that i dont have time to type.

*bump*
I'm going there next week too. Gots to be something going on there!

F-18 got most of it. These last 2 days have been unbelievably nice weather (which despite what people claim doesn't always happen here). Beware of the "May Gray" and "June Gloom". Its always cloudy around here during these months.
Cruising up highway 101 in encinitas/solana beach is nice. Downtown has changed A LOT in the last 5-10 years. Tons of nice stuff down there now.
If you want to be awed by our beaches I'd recommend sunset cliffs or windansea. Those are my 2 favs.

if you're anywhere near north county, check out both lous records and ducky waddles (low brow art, shepard fairy type shit). they're next door to eachother in the heart of leucadia on the 101.
gaslamp district on any friday or saturday night is always nice too. lots of girlies and plenty of bars/clubs.

Yes, trying the mexican food is a must! Everyone says their city has great mexican cuisine, but honestly I've never had a decen burrito outside of SD. Try a California burrito or a carne asada burrito from Santana's. That's like the equivelant of a philly cheesesteak from Geno's or something. Don't be afraid of a hole in the wall taco shop. They're generally quite good. Haven't killed me yet.

You obviously never been to mexico.. :)

um..yeah duh...
I meant decent mex. food outside of SD but inside the US.
Which brings up another point. Why not just go down to TJ and experience the real deal? I was just there on Saturday. Que sabrosa!
