Enter response:exactly... is your client going to look at your script and flip out when they see a table tag?
And if everyone's so gung-ho for css and dhtml... why IS IT such a pain in the ass to do the simplest thing such as centering content w/a div when a table can handle it w/out issue?
... nerds.

I know what your saying about a full css site. But some css tags are just not supported.
so your going to build another site for 0.5% of your audience? Even if it is the client, sometimes they need to be enlightened. But if they want to pay for it. Maybe that's your angle. I can get it to work, but its going to take more time and money. Or you could just use firefox or whatever... insert benefits of ff...
I would ask them if other sites look wack while they're surfin'?

I realize that you want to be tableless but don't kill yourself.

Enter response:I think you just 'learned' that it's not worth beating yourself up to make everything 'standard' as it were. :)
... and jsut a quick vent - why are 'original' methods that existed before someone decided that another method should be considered 'standard' always poo-pooed?
Sure - we're working on a better way of getting everything on an even keel... but... BUT... we aren't ON an even keel yet - there's multiple browsers w/many diff users who have many diff things activated or installed (or vice versa)...
... and I think someone needs to get Zeldman stoned so he'll shut the fuck up and leave the web all-together.

Archaic Browser Alert
Due to limitations of its antiquated rendering engine, your browser, among other things, severely impairs this site's main navigation menu.
• Please, use the auxiliary menu in the upper left hand of the page. •Background
Microsoft has not substantially updated Internet Explorer since the release of version 6 in 2001 — an eternity in terms of the internet era!
Projected onto the era of personal transportation, your browser would be the information highway's equivalent to a 1950's Ford Edzel on today's expressways: though a good car in its days, it's now neither fast nor safe and simply doesn't meet many of today's standards.Since I doubt you're driving this browser for nostalgic reasons, I suggest you upgrade to an up-to-date browser which
— unlike a new car — is freely available.
My advice: give Mozilla’s Firefox a try!

I hate css flaws and sometimes dumb rules (compared to tables).
Still, I am forcing myself to go tableless in all new sites. Not exactly because an end client might check the code, but
- my client can be an agency who are picky about it
- tableless cutup becomes standard skill requirement those days.I once got a job I really needed when my then future boss run my site through the feckin validator (which I hate)
Above all that, as I can blather all day about css sucking (css itself, not browser implementations), I just got fed up with table cutups one day. I couldn't write table code anymore..
- rafalski0
btw, are you sure you tried all centering methods?
- Jaline0
I love css and dhtml and all that jazz, but sometimes a table or two is for the best.

Jaline, dhtml was a beautiful pre css nazi era thingy, virtually prohibited in recent three years until JS lovers united, renamed it ajax and spread the hype ;)
