today was my first time voting on a machine, which in a general way bothers me not at all.
here are my issues. when i order a sandwich at the local convenience store i have to do so using a touch screen. which prints out a nice receipt (one italian sub with onions, lettuce, peppers, etc.). Why can't these machines do the same thing?
beginning with the first time i voted i've doubled checked at least one or two numbers with names to make sure it was right, so this is at least important enough to consider a personal obscession.
the other thing is that you now vote and review with the names in 54 point type in an open area. hardly the 'secret' vote i've been trained to expect.
all in all, i'd say the system could use a bit of tweaking, if for no other reason than to comfort me.

now why would one want all that paper trail?

It's still too easy to manipulate results...
