Any tips, advice, recommendations? we're going on our honeymoon in July...

be prepared to get ripped off
find an ex-pat who can show you around..
or take a tour package to see the popular places
- Atkinson0
Yeah we looked at tours but they are about £200, where it only costs about £5 to get in places!
Even when ripped off I still think its cheap...isn't it?

friend goes every year to buy chinese junk
I can ask him if you like?
- Atkinson0
aye would be good, Chinese junk is good junk
- dinky0
yeah 200 for tour is expansive but if you dont know where you are going than it might be more expansive..
BUT, if you like to got lost and explore, that could be good also
- Atkinson0
yeah lost sounds good, we're staying right next to the forbidden city so it sounds fairly central, maybe wont get too lost, and the wall is fairly straight I believe...ps check www.postitpostit.com and tell your friends!!

there are some good sites like tripadvisor that can give you info and what to do in the city
- Atkinson0
just having a look at that now, I always think it's better on here to hear peoples stories of good and bad though...a lo of tripadvisor reviews are written bu the same people with different names i think
- dinky0
really eh.. i use that alot.. but everyone has differnt level of tolerance..
some ppl might think its ghetto but other might not
- Atkinson0
yeah I guess. I like the site i just think here can be less biased sometimes. At least at times when people are around, which they dont seem to be right now!!

Keep an eye out on your belongings (dont hang bags on the back of seat)
Eat the Beijing duck, look at your food before eating it, try to know what your eating. it's dirty there.
Dont give money to the little kids, if you give to one, about 20 of them will come chasing after you.

temple of heaven, forbidden city, the imperial garden... I saw them a few years ago so not sure how much they are to tour but really something you should see if you're there.

it's quite dry, buy bottled water, keep a xerox of your passport handy and the number and address of the US embassy in case your stuff gets stolen. watch out for pickpockets in crowds and tourist areas.
eat lots of noodle soup dishes and if anyone asks what you do for a living, tell them you work for the CIA as a joke and see how many heads turn! Actually scrap that, I just remember what happened to Brad Pitt in Spy Game. Have fun!
