anybody can recommend a good film scanner?

It's good for 35. Hnestly the Epson 4990Photo scanner flatbed does a great job. Plus i can scan medium format film.

should i get a flatbed? i am just gonna scan about 500 negatives and want to make it as easy as possible.

i am not sure if i want to spend 1800 on a film scanner though.

not sure, but there might be a quality difference in the actual scans? If you're spending dozens of hours doing it it would be a shame not to have the best possible scans at the end.

4990 is good.. i have one, but you get more dust issues with the flat bed..
i would maybe look for a neg scanner w/ med format capabilities.
also the 4990 cant scan a 6x7 neg to 20x24 at 300 dpi.... :S
