I don't think it can damage it. Wear it out maybe? But that's just wear and tear - in that sense Limewire would be no different than any other app that uses/abuses the HD.

ya i know was only talking for the PC peeps out there hehe
but a CUSTOM built pc would own a mac ne time. but of course it would cost a lot more =P
- hotroddy0
you got it Skelly...! That's all I'm asking.
I don't have to defrag or do any of that BS as Macs do that behind the scenes.
Don't have to worry about spyware either.
My Mac is my livleyhood so if there is any app out that might threaten it than it's gonzo.

ok, let me solve this for everyone.
what the mac guy meant was IF you leave your limewire on idling yes over time of doing that will crash your drive cuz your sharing. However if you dont share (like me) your fine just dling.
Furthermore, as soon as your done with your dls exit limewire cause it will eat up your ram and virtual memory.
Now, if you must share your files inorder to be able to dl off of others i advise you to limit the files that you have in that shareable files like to one =D is that i do as a trick i move all my other mp3s into a different folder that is not shared.
Moreover, Harddrives crashes due to limewire is rare alone. it would have to be a combination of things. for instance, lack of defrag is one, reformating too much will be one, spywares oh thats a big one, running too many apps at onnce forcing your RAM to run on it pushing your resource to its peak, etc so yea.
So how to solve all that?!??!!?
1. defrag when your using your pc/laptop
What defrag does it originize your files for the drive to run smooth thus less crash and the "blue screen of death"
2.get a good anti spyware
currently i am using only Ad aware its free and its great. and MS windows Defender Beta that is also free.
3. try not to have too much icons on your desktop and Task bar thats are always running and taking up resource on your ram. thus slowing your pc./latop down.
4. Virus scanner
getting rid of those bot/trojan will relieve stress to the processor.
5. Upgrade RAM and HD
now if the speed isnt what oyur looking for get your self a
Cosair RAM XMS they ar the fastest in the market
and SEA GATE HD very stable and fast with their 16mb buffer.
If you have a dual channel ram motherboard get dual ram its one of the ways that makes macs fly =D when a G4 onyl has a 512 but its dual so like ya.
blah ok i'll stop cuz i can go on =P
questions?

I think he means bottom line will Limewire or P2P fuck up a working machine, could care less about slowing down or RAM usage, but BREAK the machine.
?
My HD just shitted out on me, and they didn't mention Limewire.

it's true.
if you want to see how constantly your computer gets hit for completely RANDOM requests, just 'view queries' or whatever the fuck it's called. you can see how many people browse your files, and the words that they use to search them.
when you have that feature turned on, it bogs your machine right down.... now, if you think about it, that happens in the background all the time.download soulseex and you have greater control over incoming and outgoing bandwidth, booyah.

I don't care so much whether it eats ram. Final Cut eats ram. Will it f**k my machine up?

(May 8 06, 16:30)FCP wont fuck up your machine, editing softwares always eats ram, just max up your ram and you'll be fine
- uberdesigner0
in your case I hope so

(May 8 06, 16:30)I use spark with an ergo keyboard and a beaded seat cover

p2p software sucks the speed and ram out of your computer, so set it to run when you sleep and shut it down when working.
- designerror0
my last comment was fot uberD btw
- Rand0
what if you don't share?
- dijitaq0
maybe if you are sharing 100gb worth of materials and all files are being accessed all at once it would be stressful.
what's the difference if you were on a local network, say at the office, and your work mates are accessing your files??
or if you were rendering movies. wouldn't that be stressful too??

in your case I hope so

does it make them vulnerable?
- designerror0
all p2p software puts your mac into overtime.
t slows it down because it had to send out data to loads of different connections constantly.
- -scarabin-0
it's probably rough on the hd because it pulls information down from many threads and assembles them, making a lot of hd activity neccessary. if this is true, i don't see how using an ipod would be any better, since it's still a hard drive
- twoismtwoism0
bullshit!
- dijitaq0
i've never used limewire but i've had acquisitionx (a p2p app also, right?) but it didn't feel like my mac was slower when i had it on
- Seff0
any word on aquisition?
