The apple dude at the bar told me LIMEWIRE can/may cause hardrives to crash. He said P2P apps are hard on your harddrive. Do you think they are just trying to sell more ipods or is there truth to this?
If I see any degree of truth to this than I'll be saying farwell to a good friend. Can't risk losing information for free music.

I was told that as well after my HD took a crap. But I had no limwire on it.

I have heard this before, they claim that limewire leaves hidden paths over your machine that can cause it to slow down, but I have never noticed anything.

download torrents, it's better and risk-free!
- dijitaq0
did he explain why??
- uberdesigner0
does limewire screw with macs?
- PublikStar0
i've had limewire on my mac before, it slows my machine down, but some of my friends said it runs fine on theirs!
- hotroddy0
He noticed it on my laptop and said Limewire was bad because it puts a lot of stress on your drive from other people accessing it. I don't know if it's just Limewire or P2P in general.

all i know is limewire is ram eater
- Seff0
any word on aquisition?
- dijitaq0
i've never used limewire but i've had acquisitionx (a p2p app also, right?) but it didn't feel like my mac was slower when i had it on

bullshit!

it's probably rough on the hd because it pulls information down from many threads and assembles them, making a lot of hd activity neccessary. if this is true, i don't see how using an ipod would be any better, since it's still a hard drive

all p2p software puts your mac into overtime.
t slows it down because it had to send out data to loads of different connections constantly.
- uberdesigner0
does it make them vulnerable?
- hotroddy0
I don't care so much whether it eats ram. Final Cut eats ram. Will it f**k my machine up?
- designerror0
in your case I hope so
- dijitaq0
maybe if you are sharing 100gb worth of materials and all files are being accessed all at once it would be stressful.
what's the difference if you were on a local network, say at the office, and your work mates are accessing your files??
or if you were rendering movies. wouldn't that be stressful too??
- Rand0
what if you don't share?
- designerror0
my last comment was fot uberD btw

p2p software sucks the speed and ram out of your computer, so set it to run when you sleep and shut it down when working.
