Redundant!

Well, what an interesting week I had last week. The team I work in (3 of us) met with our Chief Exec and one of the directors... found out they are 'closing the media department' and we are facing redundancy.
Had a 15 minute meeting with the director guy afterwards, turns out myself and the junior guy can take a different (although very similar) job in a new department, although our boss is definitely redundant.
So... should I take this 'new but same' job, or should I look at this as the kick up the ass I need to move on?
Been here 6 years, and the redundancy package would keep me going for 3ish months.
Hmmm...

move on...

If you want to try something new, take this as the kick in the arse you need.
If you're happy where you are, take the new role.
Seems pretty straightforward really.

just think how great it would be to have three whole months to look for a new job. you can sharpen up your cv and portfolio and really shop around rather than having to take the first thing that comes along. i'd probably move on if i were you. unless you really, really enjoy your current place, that is...

Shit jamble... I'm not too sure about that pic of your dog mate...
Haha... thanks for the advice, by the way.

That is true para... I'm in two minds at the moment.
The sensible side of me says take the new job offer, I need a guaranteed income 'cause I've got a mortgage etc...
The rebellious side of me says f*ck 'em, move on... but Worcester (UK) isn't exactly a thriving design city...

Leave, take the 3 months pay - take a break, update your portfolio site and get your CV ready...
...but let your current company know you'd be happy to do freelance stuff for them in future to support their current clients - then charge through the nose for your services, and delight in your old colleagues fuming at your capable greed!

(May 8 06, 03:51)That is a pretty good idea... I've got a consultation meeting tomorrow, I think I'll try and wrangle some time off...
Cheers for that one :)
