Thanks for the link, very informative read, and thanks for the offer but shouldn't the screen be "detached from the base"?
Should the press look something more like this:

Of course, just 1 and not 6...

if you are serious about it, I will mail you some hinges, I have a few sets laying around doing nothing for a few years.

illroot, these are the best instructions I have found online without paying. explains the entire process. As far as the press goes, just draw up your own plans. you can buy hinges at lots of places. the rest is just lumber and time.

Any suggestions for someone that already has a screen? I don't remember the mesh count as I used these when i was in college.
-Any instructions on how to make your own press?
-I'd like to try a one color print on a tee to get started.
-For those home silkscreeners out there, how do you get the image on the screen? A dark bathroom with a red bulb? This thread like all the others have been very helpful. Thanks.

check out - http://www.davisint.com/
they sell all types of equipment and supplies (new and used) and these water based inks - http://www.iccink.com/screenprin…
but for testing and getting into it, just get some speedball inks and spend your money on a good squeegee and frame

yup yup, you have to stick with light colored garments generally if you are using waterbased ink. I have seen some opaque white waterbased ink before but never tried it.

the texas screen aluminums are bomb because they dont warp
but if your cat decides to claw em up, you cant just replace the screen, you gotta replace the whole shabang, but they are pretty cheap

these guys sell aluminum screens with a lot of different mesh options..
the are made in mexico tho.
for real

that is true, I saw that test print you wanted to print, you may have to go like 305 meshcount on something that intricate. Your line screen export out of illustrator is important also.

well you had told me the finer the mesh the smaller the dots
made sense
after seeing theis thread i want to try this water based ink
i'm thinking the water based might make the ink a little thinner, so using a smaller mesh would result in smaller dots making a better looking shirts
i don't know that's why I'm asking
- mrdobolina0
thats a good question about a good waterbased ink. Maybe hit up the guys at skull and bones skateboard forums.

Mesh chart? What kind of info are you looking for exactly? Like what kind of mesh you need for certain art or something?
