so... I have this one 'friend' who was once a client and got me involved in some cool work w/her company.
well - she has a tendency to 'fight the power' of the higher-ups for the companies she works for when it comes to marketing and the visual representation of the company.
Her mouth got her fired from her job about 3 months ago... yet I kept the client (whee!)..
... anyway - about a week ago she calls me from her NEW company - offering me the design/marketing for that company. 'Cool!' I thought (pharmacutical shit!)...
so I goto meet her today at her new office. I walk in the door and we sit and start talking (just her and I). She then gets a call on cell - it's her boss. She's all excited etc "kevin's here, blah blah!.... yeah...
... yeah... wait...
... but I...
... yeah... no... WHAT?.... hold on-I'll need to excuse myself a second..."
so she leaves the room - comes back three minutes later... sits down in her chair and stares at me a second... then says "I guess I gotta start looking again..."
... she got fired... right there on the spot...
... again...
... so I leave all dumbfounded -
never meeting the 'client' to even discuss the project/projects -I just NOW got an email from her boss - she's gone... and I have a meeting with him tuesday...
... i'm still a little dumbfounded... this is the second time she's been fired - yet I'm up a 2 clients now.

... I'm sure she's long been drunk and won't be in contact until tomorrow some time. :)

UPDATE!! (hahaha... this girl rules)...
I just got a call from her again today - already on her new 'job' as it were... supposedly revamping the entire look & feel/marketing for her new employer (some Private Investment Firm)... and I guess I'm on board here now too.

her claim to faim is working at Vogue in NYC for about 4 years... so she's got plenty of connections(or so she says... i really don't know).
She's actually really REALLY good at what she does... and she's NOT a 'yes girl' as it were...so she butts heads - and hard.
Honestly - the two 'companies' she was with really do 'blow'. They're a visionless bunch of land developers who crank out homes and condos like crazy. They hired her to do her job and really undermined her expertice a number of times...
... but alas - if you need to make money - then you need to learn to say 'yes' from time to time.
Both of her parents are doctors - she's 29 and an only child... so I suppose the 'consequences' of her mouth aren't even an issue to her.

Enter response:that's kind of an understatement. :) Many Client-types here are rather visionless and prefer the middle-of-the-road crap design that this town cranks out for them.
It's hard to describe - but pretty much the mentality w/much of phoenix is 'make the logo bigger' and be done with it... which is why there is soooo much that I will never show in my portfolio (and probably should ditch a few pieces in m y portfolio now that I think about too).
