Can anyone suggest a good small lomo camera that isn't too expensive? Preferably one that doens't take multiple shots per frame.

spend some time searching for an LC-A (the basic lomo). It's expensive through the lomography page, but if you do some searching you can pick one up cheap. It's certainly the only one worth getting... that and a holga.

Try Ebay, I sold my freebie LOMO camera on there for about £70 so you might pick up a bargain.

aye the original is the best

if you want a less-expensive, but similar technique alternative to start w/- go for a HOLGA. i love mine.

LC-A
isnt holga medium format? thatd be exy to develop hey?
- madirish0
yeah, HOLGA is medium-format, but you can shoot 35mm w/ it no problem. exposes all way across the teeth strip though.
depends where you get it developed, but all the über-cheap places do it for pretty reasonable

Fun stuff, the novelty of the Holga wore off quick though. I still shoot with my Lubitel it has a decent lense actually.

i just got the deluxe lc-a package. love it to death.
(picking up 4 rolls of prints today, can't wait)
the camera, macro and tunnelvision lenses, colorsplash flash, 2 rolls of film, 2 books, and hipshot bag was only like $375
it uses 35mm film and can be developed pretty cheap anywhere. downside is cross-processing (which i do almost exclusively) is around $20 per roll.

I have a Holga. I didn't realize it was considered lomo.
This looks pretty cool:

Thanks for the info. I am going to try to got an LC-A if I can find it at a reasonable price. I want to try the 'shoot from the hip' approach in order to break away from doing photos that seem too contrived.

fyi, i believe they LCA quantities are super limited. In february, mine got stolen and I could only find a refurb to get, which cost $50 than my brand new one originally cost me. that was through the lomography site, too. On ebay, i saw $300 and up.
try a holga, they are just as fun, too.

scarabin, you probably already know this, but you should try some expired agfa revue slide film if you're going to cross-process with the lc-a. the colors are amazingly vibrant.
seed, i used to love bringing my colorsplash to bars and parties, etc but that faze kind of ran its course. the cool thing is when younplay with exposure times, and get some crazy lines. here are some old examples if you're curious:

you've got some crazy psychedelic colors there - which i like, particularly the ones with the flowers. what kind of film/asa did you use? did you over/under -expose any?
