Do people still do them?
I'm having some issues here. The freelance writer who's been coming in for oh, three days now is somewhat going over my head with two web projects I've been working on for 3 weeks.
For both he's writing in these 'gimicks' for intro animations and lead in pages.
For our company site he want's the first page that pops up to be a 'pressure test'. He'd like the users to have to click what level of pressure they're experiencing, then based on what they choose they go to a page that explains how we can help them, then, if they are interested they can 'click here' to enter the site.
His idea = 3 clicks before the user even gets to our homepage.
His other ideas are along the same lines.
"No one is doing anything like this it's so great of an idea" is what he says. I say no one is doing it because it doesn't work.
Anyone have any online data to help prove my point or does this kind of 'make people work to get to the home page shit' still exist?
I think it's garbage.
I've looked at some big name agencies and NO ONE does shit like this.
Any help?
Thoughts?

haha
that is seriously a very bad idea though. while i have absolutly zero examples of why that sucks, common sense is pretty apparent here.
and why is the freelenace copywriter doing this shit?

copywriter? sounds like he wants to be a UI designer,
google the 'three-click rule 'which is pretty good advice IMO - a user should be able to get anywhere on a site within three clicks - not just yr homepage

(Apr 18 06, 09:59)I have no clue. He was supposed to be writing copy, not developing the whole message and UI of the site.

If he's freelance, go over his head. Talk to your CD or ACD or whoever. Those ideas are awful. Make sure mangement understands this.

//3 clicks is not enough, try 8-10 and then a 5 minute intro and at least 2-4 splash pages before the user gets to any content. I thought everyone knew this. This will be standard web 2.0 practice.
