So a few weeks ago, the VP at my company decides he wants oversight into 'anything designed coming out of our office'.
Which means everything I create. As if the project managers I deal with are very easy to work with in the firstplace.
So I show my current project to the VP and he has some good suggestions, and some critiques that make so little sense I don't even know where to begin.
He sees this:
and says 'the text looks shit'. And he hates device fonts because they are 'ugly'.So I'm like, ok. That's what anti aliased text looks like. At ten point. And my only alternative I know he would hate just as much. The text above follows the graphic standards of the package design and all other colateral, so I think this is the best way.
_Am I out of my mind to think this ok? Does it really look shit? And if it does, what am I supposed to do about it?
_Is there a tactful way to tell the VP here that that is the best solution and not offend him?
_How does everybody else deal with micromanaging ADs, project managers and heads of companies?
Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks.

Yes it really looks like shit.
What is the intended place for that graphic to be used, web or print?

web. It's a flash app.
It's a 'light' font at a small size, what should I do about this?
Thanks for the input.
Thought I was just going crazy.

tell him to get bent.
btw, the text does look like shit. use comic sans because my 10 yr old loves it and she is my little market researcher. you learn as much from kids as they learn from you.

I figured flash. Have not really used flash in quite a while but it used to really be my thing.
So they've STILL not totally perfected that problem with text?

I have a similar problem at my job with one of the heads of the company. He oversees all the design and advertising stuff we put out. He has no design sense, but you know what? I just do whatever he says. No reason to argue. Not my place to. I just never claim any of the work that gets distributed. If the company wants to be known for second rate design work, well, that's the way it's gonna go.

if you've got a good argument, make it.

tell your boss that you're being bullied by some douchebag who makes ten times what you do and tells you how to do your job, and if he knew how to do his job properly, wouldn't do such things. he lacks tact or respect.
of course maybe the guy's right in that he may know, by instinct, what he has to show to get proper results. talk to him directly with your higher ups or one on one if he's cool etc. let your superiors act as a buffer between you and the marketing team, which, said douchebag, will have to be involved in.
for fuck's sake.
