I am looking for a programmer for a onetime project.
I believe it is pretty simple, it would require taking a project I have made in flash and building it in an assembly language.
I did not post this in jobs, because It is very informal at this point, Email me or post here if you have questions, or if you are interested. If anyone knows a good programmer, send them my info and ask them to get in touch. Thanks.
Thanks,
Josh

What language?

"What language?"
Well, this is showing my ignorance right away, Im not sure what langauge would be best for this project, I was hoping whoever showed interest could advise me. The only thing really complex in the project is it would require playing short video clips in different sequences. ASide from the ability to do that, I think it doesnt matter.
Anny advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

and by 'assembly language' do you mean a scripting language or formal software environment like C or something?

(Apr 10 06, 08:09)I mean a language that can process large files like video clips more quickly than flash.
A language that doesnt require a player.

I believe the language will be dependant with the type of server the site/application will be on. No use building it in C if your running linux. Just an FYI

so this would remain web-based? why is flash a poor choice for you so far? i take it this is not a dynamic instance thus far and so the clip sizes are ginormous. w/o going through the entire deal, maybe a data-driven/flash front-end solution w/ dv streamed might handle this best?
flash is very good at handling the video, streaming or not.

all video requires a player, so you've got a problem if you dont want your user to have a player.
flash is the most common on teh internet and is also a web based system which most others arent.
JFYI

Thanks for the advice so far. This will not be web based, it will be software to install on to the computer and run a datbase of videos.
I dont mind a player to play the videos, but I feel liek the flash player is too bulky and slow to handle the speed at which i need the clips to play.
I was hoping a programming language like C+ or Java could be built to preload the video clips and play them faster than flash.
NOw That I describe it, maybe it is a much harder task than I had thought. Anyone have any experience in loading anfd playing video within software?

Actually I would say Flash is pretty shit at handling video, given the disaster that was my last job in it...
I would go with something a bit more robust like Director.

all video plays at the rate at which it was encoded ie 29fps or 25 fps etc, this is also true of the flash player, if video slows down then it is mainly due to the users graphics card......that aside you might find this is the wrong forum if yr looking for C++ or VB developers although I am sure there will be a few lurking

(Apr 10 06, 08:48)Yeah, I know there probably arnt alot, but if there are any, Id be interested in talking to you. Also if anyone knows of any good programmers looking for a little side work, please passs along their names.
What is a good forum to find programmers? Is it slashdot?
Thanks

if its not web based then the something like the flashplayer won't be as bad since it will either be loading locally, or from a cd/dvd drive. Since you aren't trying to pull video from a server, you don't have to wait for a browser to download it, which will speed up preload a lot, if not any at all.

Director is your best choice. I have done a few projects like what you are asking to be done, So i know Director would work great for that type of stuff!

(Apr 10 06, 09:16)I actually know director, I took a class on Lingo a couple of years ago.
You might be right, this is software I hope to develop and market and whenever I see software developed with Director, I always have a little less respect for it. (maybe just because I know it)
Does anyone else agree that software like director would be better than C+ or Java for handeling alot of video?

Also something I should point out, with director you can make the project Mac and PC compatible. Also Director has changed a fair bit with regards to a few years ago.
- madirish0
ahhhh, totally different beast now if it is run as local software.
i was about to write Director as a thought for you to consider, but hesitated as it sounded pretty web-based from what you wrote. guess i should have.
Director get's minimal love 'round these parts but is bad-ass. super-powerful and for something that is truly not going to be created in a hardcore software environment, is a choice solution. as someone said already it has changed quite a bit in the last years and yer old Lingo scripts will work, but there are a whole bunch more to freshen up with.
good luck.

Does director still require you to have the Director logo come up on launch of projects you create with it?
It seems like that used to be a requirement.
I will look into Director more. Anyone in here good a programming in Director? I have a feeling it would be a very easy translation from flash.
Josh

Direcotr and Flash are two different beasts - all though they do get into bed together
- madirish0
if you only build the projector as a Director-called projector, then yes you will see the 'logo' when it launches the app. if you build it as an OS executable, it will run off the OS and that will not appear. this has been true since Director 4.
lingo and action script (even 2.0) are very different. it would not suprise me at all to find the best flash people have no clue how to produce in DirectorMX.
- joyride0
why not build it in flash and make it its own exe file. Use http://www.northcode.com/ to distribute. no need for the flash plug-in.
they're are other swf 2 exe's out, that's the one I can remember.
