I think its just become fun for people to hate on the name.
There is some good that has come out of it. I think you can look at the Get Up Kids or Jimmy Eat World (pre Futures) as an example. Also The Anniversary's "Designing a Nervous Breakdown" was a unique and interesting album I thought.
I really hate that term emo though. Actually, I just hate labeling music in general. Especially someone like Fall Out Boy labeling themselves as "punk". I can only hope that the band members know better, and its just a term their label has pushed on them. Then again, maybe I just don't know what punk is.

emo isn't even a genre, it's a trend. if it was ever a genre, it went away long ago with the end of mineral and sunny day real estate. there aren't emo bands now.
if you're looking for music that dudes who wear mascara and tight pants listen to, check out any band that makes as much noise as possible without ever actually playing an instrument.

it reminds me of a super fucking lame version of the slouching grunge kurtabies

yea, i guess it is dead.
and i guess its too late to ask about bands thats not "emo" but still a pleasant listen since I'm labeled a crybaby wussass

the problem is with your question "emo" has been used to define everything from dashboard confessional to planes mistaken for stars. you're looking at such a broad spectrum of potential music, most of which is misrepresented but rooted in the punk and hardcore scene, it's impossible to give you any sort of ideas.
give some names of stuff you have, but want more like.

i agree with everyone that "emo" should be killed.
meanwhile, if you want good indie rock n roll, check out Jackie Carol (ex casket lottery) and Blackpool Lights (ex get up kids).
everyone is ex something.

good "emo":
saves the day, jimmy eat world, brand new, fugazi, the academy is..., armor for sleep etc.
- prodigalslacker0
if you're referring to old jimmy eat world... i can see. fugazi... okay. the other bands are nothing like emo, sorry. pop punk / pop rock. anything else and you're being sold a tagline.
'standard issue' emo:
sunny day real estate
mineral
old jimmy eat world
get up kids
farreally emo just doesn't exist right now, sorry.

if you ask "I would like some recommendations on good emotional music" then it becomes easier to comprehend just how gay you sound, you should try it, prior to slashing your wrists of course.
