Bearing in mind that an average medium format camera will set you back £700+ they are a steal.

Quick question to do with something determinedmoth said...
How would you go about creating a cross-processed effect on an image using Photoshop? Is it just a case of playing with the levels and colour balance until you are happy with the shot or is there a better way...
Ps. Liked the shots btw...

dont know smif.
i never PS anything if I can help it. There must be a filter out there for it.

forgive my stoopidity but what is cross-processing?
is it setting the camera to 400 when the film is 100?
- moveinspace0
cross processing is using slide film and processing as regular film

(Mar 28 06, 04:48)no.
It's shooting with slide film, and then processing it in standard film chemicals. Shooting at 400 when the film is 100 is called pushing - to compensate for the whack results produced by this process. You can "pull" the film speed in the other direction, and indeed cross process standard film in slide chem'.

p.s. you can use the channel mixer is PS to simulate cross processing

(Mar 28 06, 04:55)Or not.
Personally the result is always unexpected. I couldn't make it up sometimes. Re-creating the vignette is also not so easy.

lol I feel like I'm back in DarkRoom 101.
Cross-processing is so 1996. Literally.
Okay, I'm done being L33T now. But yeah, I've thought about screwing aroudn with a Holga too. The square format is what I find coolest about it.
But, you really can do it all in photoshop:

the vignette is easy to recreate it's the colors that are hard. in channel mixer for C41 to E-6 chnage highlight points more red and blue highlight more yellow. Shadows and midtones should be made more blue and the shadows in the red are made more cyan. Then the results are never unexpected.

Cheers lads! Much appreciated & highly entertaining to boot!

agreed- results in 'film' photography can be really unexpected- especially when playing with processing (push, pull, cross rah rah).
photoshop could create that 'effect' but no where near the random organic nature of the real deal. even vignetteing- most of the time is easy to tell if it is faked or not.

thanks stimuli!
I just picked it up cheaply as I fancied messing about. Got it for 20 nicker on ebay so I figured it was cheaper than buying another lomo (last two of those fell apart)
Plus it being medium format is a bonus.
Apparently with the light leaks one of the major problems is the spool so you are advised to remove that and get a new one in there.
Nice pictures too there moth
