I am doing a paper on the way visual perception of the way we will be living in the future has developed.
So a Utopian view opposite to the grim Blade Runner / Fifth Element etc. image.
I am looking for 3D art of Futuristic cities.
Found some through Google, but not really of representative quality.Better sources? I would love to hear em :)
Cheers!

back to the future 2?
umm...yeah actually all futuristic movies usually end up bleek.
i'd say your best bet would be to do some research on architects/architecture firms. especially ones that study prefab homes and prefab industrial..if that makes sense.

look up archigram work. paul virilio did some interesting drawings of futuristic city and buildings.
also read cybercities by christine boyer. interesting insight into the whole utopia vs distopia concept.

oh, and watch Brazil, Metropolis, as well as Playtime.
i feel like i know more... fuck it's late and i am tired.

thanks so far. Don't hesitate to name 3d artwork sites or wallpapers for all i care. Usually derived from pop-culture's perception of the future, so fine anyhow :-D

MVRDV...they have some stuff that you would be interested in...architecture firm out of Rotterdam.

Try Looking up Lebbeus Woods he does amazing futuristic, viral architecture. Zaha Hadid does great abstract plane derived forms. Holt Hinshaw Pfau Jones is a now defunkt firm, but it will lead you to Wes Jones, amazing industrial buildings. Neil Denari does these great machine buildings.
hope it helps

Thanks, interesting link.
But perhaps a bit too close to present time. Still, I appreciate it :)

did ya try a place like cgsociety.org or another 3D art place. Often these have entire sections devoted to Sci-Fi art (and with that cybercities).
I am sure the boys here can point you to the best sites out there.

Blade Runner was so cool.
But I dunno if you will find large enough images of that online.

Syd Mead did a bunch of Blade Runner matte paintings. You will hardly ever find any true 3D sci-fi cities because they're usually matte paintings.
Try checking out http://www.dusso.com/

http://www.ryanchurch.com/just to name a few others

I would look at the artists found in cgchannel.com

@ twooh: Awesome links.
I have to clearify myself. It need not necesarily be actual 3D work.
These matte paintings are fantastic, if there are more sources like this, that would be great. Thanks for being so helpful!!!!

Oh and I would also look into people that design Modern museums like the SF MOMA or MCA in Chicago. Those are great buildings.
