possible dreamweaver mx 04 noob question, but here goes:
i'm creating a file in illy of just text, in RGB mode with a hex color (say, #585858) and export as a png.
then i import it in dw, change the background color to #585858 and when i preview it - the png color is noiticeably different than the background.
is iit illy? do i need to save it as some kind of color profile?
if i do 'save for web' it has this this this white border around the image - so i try to export as PNGs instead.
(running CS1 on Tiger).
thanks in advance - much appreciated.

nothing to do with a color profile...um...try set up illy using rgb not cmyk... then do the export
if that doesnt help come back here and post the results I will see if I can help you through it....
- stringbean0
do you mean create a new doc with the RGB color mode?
'cause i've tried that. unless there's some kind of setting/pref that needs to be changing to RGB that i'm not aware of...
but thanks liquid, 'preciate the help.

ok don't export to png. export to gif. I know if you export to jpg sometimes the background goes screwy.
I know that when I create something in rgb in illy and then drop it in fireworks the color changes.. It's a pain in the arse actually.

ok. i'll try that next.
i just hate dealing with text in Pshop, it isn't as easy/fluid as it is in Illy.
thanks for the help, again. i'm at work but will try it when i get home.

Use the DigitalColor Meter in your Utilities to sample the color from the png. Then use that hex value to set your background color.
The color meter doesn't lie.

you can grab the colour with dreamweaver's picker tool as well. never steers me wrong (though safari sometimes treats un-tagged images funny. so that could be the issue.)
As for Copy and paste from illustrator to photoshop/fireworks and colours changing, that has to do with you colour profiles not matching... either turn off colour managment, or make sure your profiles match.

crap! I'm stumped.
tried previewing in Firefox, still the same problem. did the Digital Color Reader (which is a neat trick, btw) and it said what i was ($585858).
can't save a GIF, when i try to export, that option isn't there and saving for the web only yileds 3 filetypes: JPEG, PNG and AI. the fiirst one looking like utter crap.
i will say that in DW evertything matches up - its only when i preivew and publish it.

thanks for the help, again, it's much appreciated.

If you just want the background to match and you've already switched to a gif, just use a transperant background. Make sure the matte color is close to your actual bg color and all should be fine.

BTW... I get #585858 for your site background color and #5E5E5E for your image background.

I get #6a6a6a for the image background... Well, as ETM stated you could just deal with it by making the image a transparent gif or png. For what it's worth I've had similar problems to this before but I can't for the life of me recall how I fixed it. :\

ETM and welded - thanks for the help.
here's what happens when i save it as a GIF with transparency as the bkg:

it has that funny white border around it. any clue how to get rid of that?
anyyway, i know that the image is #585858 when i export it but it appears #6a6a6a when you publish - that's the problem - i can't figure out how fix that.
i remembered how i did it before but its a big pain. i save the image in illy, copy and paste it into Pshop and save for the web.
i really feel like there's got to be a simpler way. i mean, how do people have these incredible interesting vector pieces on the web? going to Illy to Pshop to DW?
thanks again, much obliged.
