show of hands. Who just uses MS Word to make their resume and who breaks out Illy to "design" their resume.
I'm debating whether to leave mine as a crappy word doc or if I should spiff mine up.

both. some agencies only want a word doc.

if you are a designer, you are expected to be a designer on everything you do.

Careful with going apeshit on it. Most people have no time deciphering the "designed" resume, but some a little sugar and spice for spiffiness never hurts.
Find the balance between clean and quick, and memorable.

i do both doc. and pdf.
nothing fancy but make sure the information is clearly presented and visually pleasing.

Made mine in indesign because word frustrates me, but it is simply and neatly typset, no frills or crazy stuff.

pdf.
i've had really great feedback on it.

It's worth remembering that a lot of the larger recruitment agencies scan in the cv to a database, extract all the info and pop it into a database for easy searching - you get too flash with the layout, it can't be scanned in and they just bin it.
w*nkers.

If a prospective employer was asking for a .doc I wouldn't apply.

pdf from illy or indesign.
I've seen places that don't accept, word docs. The other side of the coin is overdesigned resumes with graphics. Looks like overcompensating.

i have a pdf version, html version and a .doc
you really need them all.

design for your auidience, whether thats a pdf or a sheet of paper in the post.
Theres nothing to say you cant or shouldnt apply with different formats/things to different people/companies.

definitely .pdf, and make it tiddy.
messy resumes lose points instantly... so do 14 pagers (no joke)
keep the graphics and logos off of too. Just text, nice and clean.

haha. You caught me, but I only did that once while trying to get your mums attention.

(Mar 20 06, 08:49)Same.
Don't just use Arial in Word but, on the other end, don't slap on photos and graphics and a bunch of crazy nonsense. I got an interview in the fall based on the clean layout and choice and usage of fonts.....so it can make a difference.
