Have any of you tryed or own the new MacBook Pro? How does it run Photoshop and Illustrator? Is the rossetta translator slow? Just want to know because I need a new laptop and am wondering if I should go with the power book or the MacBook Pro.

the macbook has a much better screen. same sony technology as my xbrite screen hooked to my mini mac from sony..
well worth it.
adobe will release new software soon enough..
but if you are 100% dependent..................maybe try it out in the apple store or something?

But do you think adobe will offer the new version for the intel chip as a free upgrade to Premium Suite 2 owners. I just bought the package and I would be pissed as hell if I had to rebuy the whole package for the new computer. that would stink!!!

The have already said they will support Intel Macs in CS3, so an upgrade will be required

You'll have to buy it again.
it's going to be a whole new suite.

yeh I just found this , oh well I will have to blow another shitload on cs3!!
Customer: Hi, I hate waiting for a job to process. That's why I just bought this insane new Mac Pro that runs circles around my old G5. Can I order the Adobe Intel update?
Adobe Rep: Umm, no, sorry. You see, we at Adobe believe you should keep running your G5 until you can buy CS3.
Customer: Thanks, but I already paid for CS2 and I'm happy with it. Since my Mac Pro does everything else twice as fast as my G5, I wanted to see that gain in CS2 too.
Adobe Rep: Well you can run CS2 on your Mac Pro under Rosetta...
Customer: Yeah, but then it's slow like hell.
Adobe Rep: You see, that's why you should stick to your old G5.
Customer: But it's slow at everything else compared to this new box.
Adobe Rep: As soon as we release CS3 you'll be fine.
Customer: OK, I'll buy it.
Adobe Rep: Umm sorry, but you're gonna have to wait another 8 months. You see we are using this totally new development tool called XCode that was just recently released and it's all sooo new and soooo different.
Customer: Great. Thanks.

This just stinks, thanx Apple and Adobe for being such C_NTS!!!

and people wonder why piracy runs rampant
- GreedoLives0
at the same time you can't really expect adobe to sit around and hand shit out for free every time a computer maker switches EVERYTHING.

do people actually buy software?
omg

argh, i have a feeling my mac will die before gen2 macbook pro comes out. i'd be pissed if that happens.
also, do you guys heard the news about something special may come out for apple's 30yrs anniv this april?
- CyBrainX0
I think CS2 came out in August 2005, which means you'll have to wait till at least February of 2007 for CS3 - if history is any indicator.

so who wants to sell me their G4 17" loaded with applications? i've got some money for ya!
- ColinZeal0
apple are apparently furious at adobe because they've said the earliest they'll get a new version of CS out that runs natively with intel machines is 12 months time.
advice from apple is to stick with G4 laptops and G5 powermacs if you're running illustrator or photoshop because the performance on a macbook pro is G3/G4 standard!
- uberdesigner0
Can windows be installed on these?
- ColinZeal0
...which is bizarre because they've literally stopped displaying powerbooks in store
12" and 17" macbook pros could be announced on April 1st
possibly along with macbooks (ibook?) - which leaves G5's to be intelled within a similiar case
- josimarX0
i just bought the 2.16ghz bad boy all tooled up with max ram, fast hard drive but Illus / photoshop are my fave progs. Am I fucked?
i was hoping to sell my 17" G4 to pay for some of this?!!?
balls.
- ColinZeal0
well how's it running on it? you tried yet? apple sare saying its shit but users are saying its cool - perhaps it is quick but just doesn't live up to the speed you get on everything else
- mrdobolina0
epill has one, email him.

a guy at work has the macbook pro and we just got one of the new imacs. he says he hasn't really seen any difference w/ photoshop on the macbook as compared with his old pb. it's definately not 4x faster or whatever apple's claiming when it's paired with the adobe products, but i imagine you'll notice quite a speed increase with cs3.
unfortunately we haven't loaded anything on the imac yet, i'm interested to see how fcp and AE run on it. i'll post up some info once we get it up and running.
so, for those wondering whether they should go with the macbook or a pb, i'd say get the macbook, in the long run you'll get more out of it and won't suffer all that much in the short term.
