yer gonna want something w/ a really fast burst speed and fps. think D1H, D2, D10, D20, ect. possibly a lower-grade SLR like a D70, ect but i think you will find the limits of it real quick.

5 fps +
and for indoor MX you're going to need a pro-flash that can strobe in sync.

actually on 2nd thought MX is REALLY fast so probably make that 7 fps +

yes, that is why I mentioned it, a slow trick on a snowboard is one thing but these guys fly by really fast, so.. 7fps will be enough? anyone else?
thanks horton!

I've never had the opportunity to shoot MX, but I can say from experience that the more FPS..the better the chances of getting that one great shot.
It will be very expensive to get a digital SLR with high FPS right now though. Even the mid-grade Canon EOS series do not do 8 FPS, so you'd be looking at high-end serious pro gear.

High end pro gear for free?? DOn't worry about making me jealous or anything!
Are you referring to one of the randomly rotating photos on my website? I could indeed have one in there from the whistle stop.
I've lived in SD all my life, but most of my time has been spent in the SDSU/La Mesa area. Did a 4 year stint in UTC for college.

PS - as for the photography...its still a new and developing interest in mine but i've learned the hard way that its not just the camera body that counts.
shite lens = shite pictures.
for action sports you definitely need a fast lens..meaning a very large max. aperature. a top quality lens may well cost you more than the camera itself.

the Canon1Ds Mark II is pretty much the standard but I've shot some MX sequence stuff w/ a Canon10D. There is a big difference there but it can be done.
I'm looking into getting the Nikon D200. The Nikon D2H is fast but what you gain in FPS you lose in Quality.
Hope this helps.

Hey MIJA, seeing that you already did what I intend to, do you think 8fps is enough?
And the camera won't be mine, lets just say the company will let me borrow it...
so no need to get jelous, I still shoot with a rebel and it's more than enough for me for now, I'm still learning so...
- MIJA0
8 FPS will definitely be enough. What are you looking at getting that shoots at that speed?
You will want a 80-200mm f2.8
If the company will spring for it I would even go bigger than that but It if you can talk them into a fisheye you should go for that too.

Thanks MIJA!
I don't think I will use the fish eye/ wide angle for this project, the image has too look flat, but I do like wide angle shots for this kind of thing usually..
;)

I deal w/ this stuff a lot so let me know if you have any questions.

is that like synchronized skiing?
