"What annoys me is that he can feel all superior to politicians whilst still being a rock star. But he's not a politician and wouldn't have the first clue about law and the political process or history."
yaaahhhh kiiidddd. spoken from someone who doesn't know the whole story. i'm sure those responsible just throw around nobel peace prize nominations and time person of the year awards to people who don't know the "first clue about law and the political process or history".
do us a favor, have a read...
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/1…the new your times just throws out 14 page puff pieces entitled 'the statesman' regularly...

ouch...
I've come to the opinion that you really can't fully critique and examine music until your mid 20s. You need to watch firsthand as trends in music are born and die. Give her a break. I know I'm still working on getting there myself.
As for me.. I'm def. a fan of their older stuff. Seems more raw. more energey and passion there.

they are almost as good as Maroon5!!!!!!

rafalski, 'all that you cant leave behind' was produced by eno. as well as some tracks of the demos on the new one. that must change your view on them now that maestro eno's fingerprints are on them.
bradpitt, must i bring up some of your recent role choices???

U2 are gonna get so gnarled and wrinkly that they might end up forgetting their instruments backstage while Bono dry humps an adoring fan after toddering off the proscenium.
New genre to consider: wrinkle rock

for my final stance i will say this: u2 are the best band in the world today. to argue that would be futile.
you may not like their music. you make think they are a bunch of asses. but, you have to consider that they have been around for almost 30 years and respect and accept the fact that they are still on top. what band can say that? even the stones fell off in the 80's. they've sold close to 100 million albums, they tour the world for two years after each album to be able to make it to every place they are number one on the charts.
to say that they are 'average' and that the only reason they are big is because of bono's politics is absurd. 'average' bands dont do what they do. and u2 was massive during zootv in '92-'93 which was 8 years before he started in politics.
it should also be known that the king of cool, miles davis, only listened to u2's 'the unforgettable fire' while on his death bed. 'average' bands with 'mediocre' songs dont get that kind of respect.
a lot of the comments in this thread are laughable. i dont mind if you say you don't like their music or that you dont like them personally--everyone is entitled to their opinion. but to say they are 'average' and only big because of bono's politics is pretty ignorant.
these are the same people shitting on u2 that listen to sigur ros hit one note every ten seconds. now THATS an average band. average being an overstatement. makes me want to slit my wrists.

how about their music is poppy 80's rubbish. you only like like bono because he wears a leather vest with no shirt. whut
- mattyd0
nay, i do protest, their music is not 80's pop rubbish.
also, i do not believe bono is god, i just direct my prayers towards him.
- bradpitt0
matty probably has bono printed all over his boxers. >:)
- mrdobolina0
I made the mistake of telling matty that u2 went lame after bono started constantly wearing shades.
- mattyd0
and im still shaking my fist at you.
- mrdobolina0
hahaha, you must admit they changed considerably after bono started wearing those shades, mang.
- mattyd0
