iBook batteries have a standared of lossing power forever.
just replace the battery. ave life span can be 1year. sometimes more.
its not the plane ride.

was the laptop with you or in your luggage?
i had issues when i didnt take it with me on carry on.
it has to do with temperature since the temp can go really low and really how really fast. also compression of the air or lack there of.
if you check the box or manual, you should see what temp and altittude that yoru laptop operates in and should be stored in

what generation ibook is it?

probably caused by excess shaking on the hd. i think that screws up the hd needle and creates a problem. make sure you carry it in the well-padded bag.

it was a carry on and in a ok padded bag but i didnt use it during the flight used it in nyc and then a week after i got home it died on me... it was one of the old white ibooks 2nd gen, the new one is the new 15" powerbooks right before the intel chip came out also have a new bag too so i hope it will be ok

i watched 'don't tell mom the babysitter's dead' with the dude next to me on his laptop the last time i flew to new york

send your laptop via bus. meet it at the bus station. it'll smell like pee and cigarettes but other than that it should be fine.

i fly with my laptop all the time, i use it while flying too. my hd died 3mo ago but it was just old and had nothing to do with the flight.
i think your hd lives longer if you just keep it on your desk.

not the flight. not the x-rays. if you carry-on you should be fine.
never send expensive electronics through checked luggage. they use higher power x-rays, not to mention the bag tumbles all over the place.

how do you know it wasn't taking a dump that killed your HD? or having that cup of coffee so close to the machine? Or the haircut you had before the trip - maybe some loose hair got into the machine?
seriously though - a week after you travelled, that is a pretty weak coincidence, your ibook was dying anyhow.
