I don't understand why it is an 'outstanding portfolio'
I just can't see it. The to the site has some impact (the After Effects explosion) but is harding incredible.
Why the need to explain every minute detail of your work? The projects are on the whole not very well executed and the ideas and thinking are very studenty.
Which is fine, he is a student who has just graduated but I know a lot of students who graduated in my yeargroup who's work is much stronger with some incredible ideas. Work which has been featured in magazines such as creative review and eye, some who have even had books published straight out of college.
All I am saying is, well done Dave for putting lots of effort into your portfolio and promoting yourself incredibly well. But if I was an AD in the US there's no way I'd hire him as a graphic designer based on that folio (maybe for web design or marketing thought)
But having said all of that it's great to see someone working so hard and really caring about what they do. He deserves credit and commendation for really pushing himself in what is really a very crowded jobs market

Okay, now I don't often admit that I'm so unbelievably wrong but this is one of those rare occasions.
I've just realised what a genius Dave Werner is. But his genius lies not in the field of design. He should give that up and concentrate on music.
I was apparent from the first time we all ever saw him. The Kanye West take off song. He re-recorded the whole track himself and sang all the parts/played the instruments and rapped. Not bad.
BUT
Check out his blog which I've just been looking through.
On this page look at the 'music' section:

Now first listen to a song called "Yellow Dress" that Dave wrote and sang when he was 7, now listen to the re-working and recording of the song at age 23. Such a great idea and the song still sounds good.
All of which has changed my opinion, he should be a musician.

A big agency would snap him up as an ideas man, he is just talented... probably doesn't spend too much time on the little details as hes probably too wired! really good site
