Mac video editing

I'm researching video editing software for Mac, It looks like Premier is no longer compatable with Mac systems, is this correct? The other option is Final Cut - either Express or Studio. The problem is I need After Effects also, but FC Studio comes with their version of a motion graphics program. To purchase Studio and After Effects is way over budget, but I'm worried that the bundled motion software is not as good as After Effects...
I'd love to hear any thoughts or info you might have!

Depends on your editing needs... go wit express and AE if you are doing some light editing.

Are you familar with Express verses Studio? Are we really losing that much? Yeah, it will be pretty basic but we might want room to grow.

Yeah I used express once and it seemed like the same thing. Get exprerss now, then upgrade later after a couple of gigs.

(Mar 6 06, 11:17)And vice versa. If you need full editing capability, buy the Final Cut Studio HD, with Motion. If you don't need ninja like motion graphic capabilities at the moment, Apple Motion will probably suit your needs.

Motion will probably be OK. But do u have to buy Studio? Can't you buy Final Cut HD separately and After Effects?

Harlequino is correct. Im always thinking graphics....

I can't find Final Cut as a standalone, It seems like they only offer it in the studio.

You cannot buy FCP seperate anymore...only studio.

That's so WEAK!
In Express you can't export OMFs or EDLs, as well as missing features such as adding motion to clips and images. However, those things you can do in After Effects. Unfortunately, I know of no other editing software for Macs aside from Avid ($$$$ and annoying) and Media100 (old school and I don't know if anyone uses it anymore...) How ever, I know for a fact that you can buy Express and then buy the HD or Final Cut 5 update... Maybe that is more feasible than Studio?

The way I understood it when FCP express came out was it was the same thing as HD, except for certian exprting options.
If you are going to be doing broadcast work, you should get HD. If you are just doing stuff for the web or DVD, express is all you need.
Again, this is what apple said when they came out with express, but someone can correct me and I wont argue.

So If we get Express we can later upgrade to FCPro? That might be the way to go. Most likely we'll just be doing edits and transitions in Final Cut, then adding motion graphics with AE.

Josh hit the nail on the head when he said that Express is fine if you aren't doing broadcast.
So I would say: If it's web only, Express would be fine. Broadcast you need Final Cut Pro HD OR AVID.
Unfortunately, I was wrong. They no longer give upgrades of Express to HD. :( Maybe on a site that's not Apple though.

One word: Acquisition
- Chief0
get final cut and ae, then get automatic duck and you can go back and forth between the two.

What is Automatic Duck?
- 305artist0
Its a badass program interchange plug-in it will keep your timelines mostly intact while you switch from app to app. I love it but cant use it at home because its hard to hack.

Automatic Duck is way too expensive!!!
- Chief0
it is expensive, but totally worth it.

Someone showed me a demo of this. Pretty rockin. It is expensive though.
