someone at work the other day was talking about a fractal program or something along those lines that will take low-res images and make them print quality.
i'm assuming this gets a lot of use in billboard printing (even though they're not hi-res up close), but i want to use it for screen shots in my printed portfolio.
anyone know what program it was?

Genuine Fractals Print Pro:

Extensis also has a product, PixelSmartScale, which is comparable.
i wouldn't say they'll take a low res image to print quality (not enough image info) but they do a good job of taking a high quality image and making it poster/ billboard size.
i've used a few times.

"but i want to use it for screen shots in my printed portfolio."
.. yeah probably not going to help for this use. screen shots will not be enough to work with, you really decent pixel detail to start with.

I think if you scale to 50% and print at 150dpi, most people will get the gist of the work. sep. if you can direct them to an online folio as well

up until now, i've just been using my illustrator originals in a screen shot browser window.. .so the artwork's hi-res but not the chrome border.
someone posted a link to the firefox icons in vector, but i can't find that. if i had that, redrawing the window would be easy.
