Victor Wooten is an awesome bass player.
Listen to him on the Tribal Tech album 'Vital Tech Tones' he plays a slap solo on Giant Steps – ok so slightly tasteless but impressive none the less!

We got to see a whole bunch of Flecktones concerts (on video) in high school two years ago, in music class. It was awesome.

"Stabley Jordan was bigish in the 80s – has done nothing since and his technique is pointless and gimicky."
you're an idiot

Nope that'd be anyone who actuallly like stanley jordan/michael angelo.
I've been studying music and guitar for about 10 years solid and been playing other instuments most of my life.
If there's one thing I know it's music and guitar. Those guys have no critical acclaim or respect among professional musicians and session players.
I've been lucky enough to have been taught by some of the best tutors and session players in the UK and have played live with some of them including guys like Guthrie Govan and Pete Freisen (Alice Cooper band) who really know their stuff.
I respect some of the guys left over from the 80s:
Players like Shawn Lane (who's now dead) and Richie Kotzen, Scott Henderson, Greg Howe, Brett Garased because they are actually still creating meaningful interesting intelligent music. Not just playing patterns at great speed. If you want a great fingerstyle or chord melody player (essentially what Stanley Jordan aspires to) then check out Tuck Andress, Michael Hedges, Antonio Forcione etc.
I am not an idiot.
