well this might be kinda dumb. I have a design job been working for like 6 months now. I don't think the CD really has much that she can teach me. Shes a great person but I think she lacks experience herself. Other then applying for a job at the moment, which I will look into in a few months. Is there a way for a designer to get a mentor. I'm also willing if any of the designer I really like here would personally critic my work. I know I could just post but I find most of the time I don't get to many changes. I just need someone experience to teach me the tricks and tips of the trade. So yeah this post might be dumb but if anyone has any ideas let me know.

You learn best by being your own mentor...AKA learning the hard way. Its tough, but also the most rewarding. Keep your head up dude. I'm right there with you. God knows I've got a lot left to learn.

grid (in books) type (in books as well) and style (inside you) is all you need
validation from others might hold you back from what you are actually capable of

no grid. no type. books but not ones about design.

yeah man. Shes super nice. But I think she got lucky and got that position because I she her do alot of little design things I would never do. She never uses a pantone book is my big thing it makes me want to punch stuff. Then when I look at mine...cause I was taught you should always pick colours out of pantone books even if the colour is being printed CYMK and it's always worked for me it one of those i think good habits I have. But she doesn't care just mixes and picks colours on screen. Maybe I'm wrong with the whole pantone thing tell me if i am. Most of my idea are shot down and the ones that are used then skewed and changed so much I hate everything.
