Cincinnati rocks for undergrad...
With their co-op program students get to work 18 months at firms around the country - before they graduate.Their masters program is currently lacking...but is getting a total restructuring in the next 2 years.
I got my BS in Digital Design this past June.

art school's no more BS than anything else. You could teach yourself most things if you want, but seems like a lot more work than working daily with experienced people in the profession.

People say its the best art schoola in US

(Feb 26 06, 09:24)I'm there for Digital Design now. The experience and talent of the faculty here is more than I ever expected.. I don't think I would want to be anywhere else. I'm starting Co-op in a few months, can't wait. :D

Good luck studioflow. I am a former Graphic graduate from DAAP, and you are going to learn a trillion times more on a good coop than in class.

I think you can technically learn a lot of things on your own like how to use programs and what not. but art school in general teaches theory which is really hard to learn on your own.
i look at it like this, a lot of design schools teach you how to be art directors, creative directors and leaders. well the good ones at least. they teach you how to think.
again, there are exceptions to this but for the most part i often see people who went to good schools become the bosses while others become the production artists. just depends on what you want in your career.

this is in reply for Jaylarson who wanted to know about Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
I'm actually going to attend MCAD Fall of 06 for a bachelors of fine arts in graphic design.
i'm hoping to go to RISD for a masters though. well see.

hello, im not from the united states. i assume the list is agreeable having heard so many good things about them.
im from the most overrated art school in malaysia www.limkokwing.edu.my and i can say they didnt teach much and most graduates have insufficient knowledge and skills and end up doing business/medelling.
im a fine art diploma grad and now im a graphic designer. i think having an rt education is important to some ppl, and others prefer to self-taught. depending on the amount of determination and motivation. i must admit id be a bit lost without an art education.

yes?

Scad has so much good work that comes out of it. I'm not too sure about MFA's, but watch out for the talent that will be graduating.

I'm from london but my uncle lives in Rhode Island. When I was out there a couple of summers ago I visited RISD and whilst it was ok, wasn't blown away.
Looking at the faculty for the graphics dept I can't see a single name I recognise:
http://www.risd.edu/graphic_facu…
Surely they should have some well known designers teaching there if they're the number 1 school in the US

Wow, at $30,000 a year it had better be good. Makes me appreciate my design education which cost me significantly less than that for all 4 years!
- Montgomery0
did you go to school in London Baskerville?
- kelpie0
$30'000 a year?!
wow, I think I'd just get some guns and deal crack if faced with that :/

Baskerville-
I read on your site you went to CSM. I'm finishing my foundation at LCC. My interview for the degree is tomorrow at lcc and a week or two later at CSM..Do you recommend your school?
- Baskerville0
Yup, CSM was good for me. Everyone's different though.
There's a huge yeargroup there but if you push to make yourself known and do good work then the course will do a lot for you. There are some great tutors there (phil baines etc) but you'll have to fight to get a decent amount of time with them (although I'm still in touch with some)
It's really about what you are prepared to put in. I got really involved and ended up organising the degree show and gained loads of experience.
CSM also has lots of links with industry – half of the london design community went there:
Why Not Associates, Graphic Thought Facility, Aboud Sodano etc etc. There are also lots of 'live briefs' in addition to the course work so you get to enter competitions set by big name clients (obviously they are only open to your yeargroup) So if you win you can put it on your cv>
We had projects with: Gas Jeans, Diesel Jeans, Tabasco, Illy Coffee, The Independent (I won £1000 from them!), Laurent Perrier Champagne, Dom Perignon Champagne, some films companies, and tons more.
I hope that sells it to you. Although obviously LCC (or LCP as I like to call it still) is really good too. You'll get special treatment in admissions from LCC because you're on foundation there so that will help you.
- Montgomery0
Thanks for the info. The live briefs sound pretty tempting.. I'll have to rethink my first choice.
Thanks again
