Well it happened. Recently we were told we would be outsourcing a lot of our production work to India. So while no jobs have been cut yet, it's only a matter of time. The work sent back so far has been poor quality, and the management doesn't seem to care as they see big $$$.
How do you beat the system?

Heh, heh. I liked the China comment.
Xenicon can you expound more?

you don't. it's inevitable. you just hope that most employers realize that ultimately it's smarter to keep it in-country.

I think I'll just play it cool and see what kind of experience upper management has with it.

my last company was doing a case study on outsourcing there. Its pretty much true, dev costs a lot less. But the management time, stress and reworks plus the communication confusion made it a lot less desired. hence it didn't happen. The value of walking down the hall and praising and/or yelling at someone is worth the bit of profit they gave up.

I remember reading about this guy that worked for a corporation who hired an Indian guy to do his coding. He would spend a couple hours a day going over the guys code and submit it as his own.
He was making around 80 grand a year...and paying his "contractor" around 20 grand. 60 grand for a ten hour week!

ˆ yeah I heard that 2. Basically he outsourced his job, which allowed him to get a second job in which he also outsourced. Brilliant!

Just found out today that our company is going to outsource a photo resizing/retouching project to India.
In one sense I am happy because it means I will not need to do that kind of bitch work, but on the other hand I'm not sure how I feel about the moral aspect of it all. I never thought this kind of issue would work its way to me, but I guess it only goes to show the scale of the matter at hand.
