somewhere in the back of my brain I remember hitting record and pause... maybe with cassette tapes or something.

go to your nearest box store and buy a sony DV cam on your credit card. Set it to AV-DV out and run your VCR through it and capture what you need through the firewire out... then when you are done take the cam back for a refund.

if the VHS tapes you have are copyright protected then no record/capture will work without something like this.

there is no easy way around this that i know unless you have a vcr that predates copyright tracks
