Anyone been/live there? What do you suggest?

Radar, send me some of those gift certificates you designed. I'll pay for the shipping costs or I can just stop by on my way home from Italy...

i went to school in Florence or Firenze Italy. great town, lots of pickpocketing, and theft. other than that go find a wine shop and get a glass of wine and walk a few blocks away then go back and return the glass...Rome has 4 churches for every day of the year to see...go see all art, all deaad artists, all churches, buy as much hash as you can, eat the most gelato as you can, get as many capuchinos and you will see how different it tastes there than everywhere else you get it...when in large places of transportation like train stations be very careful with your belongings, there especially dont let go of your stuff ever, not even 1 second...it will be taken!!!
go shop the leather markets and the flea markets...take as many pictures as you can, ,get the best walking running sneakers you can with the most support...Italy is almost all cobble stones very uneven walking and can cause pain in lower back and shoulders and spine after 1 day of walking...
talk to every girl you see and smile, you will get lucky!!!

where are you going in italy?
- jamble0
based on my limited experience of visits to italy, don't go to italy. there are nicer countries nearby.

epill, have you ever been to the carnival of venice? Apparently we are going.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, have you ever seen The League of Extrodinary Gentlemen? That is apparently what is going on when the ship docks in Venice.

Our destination is Vinezia...

oops, I mean Venezia...

venice is fun. shuts down pretty early though. met my girlfriend there, european chicks rule.

augustus hare wrote some classic guides- a little heavy for modern taste but full allusions to classica lit- make you feel Rome as a thousand year city by daylight

venice is beautiful, but it's kinda a dead town. only tourists there, very few people still live there. It's a total maze, very easy to get lost in so have a good map with you.
if you want to see the major sights, get up real early, the lines get ridiculous around noon.
and get some pics of pigeons sitting all over you at St Marks Sq.

if you want some action/excitement, take the train to padua. college town, not as beautiful as venice but teeming with life.

check out Siena in Tuscany, and of course Florence
are you just planning on Venice or are you going to tour around? how long?
wherever you go, just take some time to slow down – Italy's a great place for chilling out

for me venice was cool for like 10 minutes and then it got boring, if you are there with your girl its still only fun maybe like 1 day and 10 minutes, everything closes early and the canals reek of nasty blaah!!! the archhtecture is DOPE!!!!
but dont go there for more than a day, go to a more richly populated city on dry land.
to me florence or bologna were the funnest!!! the most to offer, great nightlife, lots of amazing bars and a few clubs, tons of churches to go see, and if you are going to italy, you have to make it to the Vaitican in Roma. that is the highest highlight ever to see Michael Angelo's Sisteen Chapel Ceiling...
