I plan on purchasing one soon. I was checking out the Panasonic AG DVX100, but it might be a bit too pricey for me, as it will be used just for hobby(filming snowboarding trips). Can anyone recommend something similar and cheaper? Thanks in advance...

Depends on your budget. Depends on your quality standard. Try to find the least expensive 3 ccd camera first, then work around there, for starters. You can probably get a real decent 3 ccd camera for 1200 range.
I chose to buy a very basic consumer handycam for 400, to practice camera work and ideas. Then by saving, I'll be able to buy a dvx100 hopefully later this year.

If you're planning on taking it snowboarding, your going to want something durable so a cheap camera might not be a good investment.
I'd go for a Sony 3CCD, in my experience these cameras can take a lot of abuse and have excellant quality but I have not used the dvx100 so I can't compare them.

if you don't mind paying 1k USD, you might consider the pana gs400. i have a large canon xl system, but this is my personal fav because it's so nondescript,. it takes fantasic images & it's very small. it also has firewire in.
