anyone know of any good online resources for rgb/pantone or cmyk/pantone matching?
- bukka0
no i have a pantone bridge guide, it gives RGB, CMYK and WEB for most Pantones? I can tell you some if you want but not 200.

I need the cmyk for a deep red hue, similar to pantone 1797 U.

don't pick colors for CMYK from U chips.. the uncoated paper shifts the color, sometimes a lot.
if you want a CMYK color pick from the coated C chips.

I'm not very experienced here. Does anyone know if the pantone/cmyk swatches in illustrator match up well with those wide format printers at say, kinkos? or with any digital printer for that matter?

thanks for that tip horton
- horton0
yeah just convert your AI PMS-coated swatches to CMYK. the conversion is OK, sometimes needs tweaking.
but it'll never be spot-on. every digital printer will produce slightly different results as its not true CMYK.

then fight back
testing the strength of super glue
getting a midget from casting central

wow. I am clueless right now.
- horton0
if its digital you can also just send your file in using the PMS colors.. the printer will convert.
i've actually had better results with digital *sometimes* using PMS in an RGB space and just allowing the printer to do its own calculations.
CMYK in digital can get dull & muddy.
ask the Kinkos and plan to do a few test runs.

Well I have a color bridge that is coated and its a good start. But horton is right, CMYK fluctuates alot.
The conversions from Pantone are as follows:
PMS -1797C: 2, M: 98, Y: 85, K: 7
R: 196, G: 38, B: 46
HTML# C4262EYou can convert in illustrator and cross check with these.

it is possible to match at kinko's, but good luck finding someone who actually knows what youre talking about.

hey thats kinda interesting.. always wondered how color bridge #s would compare..
for 1797C, AI spits out:
0, 100, 99, 4

The color bridges are great, I use mine daily.
