Is it just me or are minimalist sites becoming a common way for designers to present their work. It seems like a lot of sites that are posted here are like this. Mine is minimal because I can't figure out what to do with it...but just wondering what people think of this. Here's an example: http://www.xy-1.com/mathematics/…

Did you read my post? I am not talking about the concept in general! I am talking about the way designers present their own work online.

Hey, neon, I was just being obnoxious. Sorry.
I have a pretty minimal, one=page scroller, myself. For me, it's partly how easy it is to show, and how easy it is to be seen. I know sometimes when would-be employers/clients are looking at a site, they want to see the work and see it fast and without having to think through a bunch of navigation. If I had to guess, it's a mixture of those motivations that is moving the trend.
Again, I was just foolin' with that first comment.

I think chaztoo's last comment was right on the money. forget about the frills if you're just showing them your real finished product...
some of those visually impressive flash-based portfolios just bug me when all i'm trying to do is look at their photos or illustrations...

i think this is coming from the fact that designers want their work to speak for them, not their web design skills...unless theyre in web design. ya diggy dig?
content IS king.
