full time =security, part time= work when you feel like it, and get no benefits

Man that's an open answer dude! I like the security of fulltime - and if its a great shop and the people are sweet and have a good client rosta it's fun. Full time at a place where you are undervalued, unappreciated, and working on shit isn't going to be fun.
You could maybe permalance till you found your dream company?

Permlance would be a good choice if you get a lot of other freelance on the side.

well, at my level, doing permalance will be hard. I am going for ACD/Sr AD. i can nagotiate to get 1099 but i am wondering if that's a good idea.

i don't want to be the eternal optimist here, but i just see it all as 'situation'. part/full/perma- whatever. if you are content and fulfilled in some way or another with the situation you are in, that is ideal. if you are not, then please change/alter/adjust your situation to what you feel would be best for you and yours.

I've never heard the term permalance. I found it amusing so do that.

you've never heard of permalance?
we use it for people who do long term freelance/2-3yrs contract work.
permalance=permanent freelance

i think freelance is best, you won't be stuck doing the same projects. flexible hours.
working full time you can't chat with friends and need to hide when making personal calls.

i am currently permalancing...
i have the option of going fulltime soon, and am kinda dragging my feet at it. while i want to go on fulltime for the health benefits, etc. i am enjoying the extra income.
i plan to go fulltime soon, but as i said i am dragging my feet. i think in the end its better thou.

to me, permalance means fulltime freelance.
working for a company in house full time, but get paid at a day rate.
- tkmeister0
ldww, you an AD or ACD?
i don't think i can be an ACD with permalance. if anything the reason i would go for fulltime is the positioning of myself within the company.
- ldww0
no, im just a developer.
im permalancing because i work for a viacom subsiderary and they only hire people on staff from within. so you normally start as permalancing and then go fulltime after a year. they are however converting me after 4-5 months.
