Someone mentioned Madlib earlier and his Mind Fusion series, def worth a check out. You should also check out his Blue Note album 'Shades of Blue' where he gets his hands on a couple of classic jazz joints and does his magic. also not quite Jazz but somewhere in between and well worth a listen is Dj Krush and Toshinori's 'Ki-Oku'. Nice.

anyone recommend a track where the bass player sounds like he's high on cocaine and really really going for it?

danthon, are you really the nephew of Peter Erskine? He is amazing. The other album I almost listed is Jaco Pastorius Invitation (Erskine on drum set, of course)... Phenomenal.
Re: Charlie Hunter
For those who haven't seen him live -- It's hard to believe he's pulling that much soud out of one (8 string) guitar (no bass player, no overdubs).
I used to see him play every couple weeks in San Francisco back in '93-'94 when he made the leap from 7 string to 8 string... always great.Check out Bing, Bing, Bing!
Great early C. H.
