I hear ya. Ya money has never been the driving force behind my decisions, but of course it doesn't hurt. Yeah when I mean agencies, I mean places like BigSpaceship, R/GA, AKQA, Firstborn Multimedia, etc. Shops that do big agency type work, but aren't occupying 12 floors like most big ad agencies.
What really matters to me is more how the vibe is at the studio. It's all about having that "family" of designers working towards something collectively. Too big of a place and you feel like a number...
full time and full benefits, i used to do full time freelance but i prefer the benefits over being paid on weekends, but just my opinion.

How do you like R/GA?

Great Site brennan!!
p.s I would love to know how you get the left and right column to fix when scrolled!?

carne-
R/GA has been a great experience for me. Great clients and great people. The size of the agency though is quite large, it's over 400 peeps now. So forget knowing everybody ;)

For the fixed columns on my site, I used the position:fixed command in css which works great in every browser except IE... shrugs. Yeah apparently the market giant doesn't care too much about compliant standards which others have supported for years ;) Anyways, IE 7 will fix this I hear, but there are workarounds for the IE peeps, just not as lovely hehe

brennan i got to ask- what frame rate did you use for the Harp site? aside from the slick AS you are using, curious how you were able to achieve the fluid motion. especially looking at it through firefox.
nice portfolio for sure, also.

thnx madirish....
I usually always use 31 fps for my projects when designing in flash. The Harp site was particularly smooth because I was able to tap the drawing API for all transitions and such, which helped considerably.
- madirish0
ahhhh, thought you might have done something like that. good to know.
31fps is what i work under as well, just that the movement was so fluid thought there might have been another trick used..... and there was. :)
good luck with the search.

What is the reason for 31 again? I've been using it for years but have forgotten why it's a good idea.
- madirish0
lol skt!
'i've been breathin' for years now- someone remind me why i keep doing it?' ;)
it is to give more data for the processor on the machine viewing it (what flash taps directly to play through the swf's) actually, that is my simple answer, i bet ol' brennen's got a much smoother one the ladies get weak knees from.....

31 is a cross platform issue for Flash being developed on Mac so it runs as close to Flash on a PC as possible. It used to be more of an issue, but is still good practice. Macs interpret 31 as 30 or some such technobabble.

well i'd say based on your experience, you should possibily be cracking off around 80 gees a lick i'd say. then, saying THAT you'd might get some napper ny companies willing to go over and above that, kid. i worked in the states for two year in the 90's after i'd graduated in iFR Risk Management( got my PHD dip from a well known US business college)-that got me where i am today, why, a year ago i was earning £56k working out of london, dublin and a fast track rambling satelite office in cleckheaton for W.Yorks district + money from writing for various US trade mags. i was taking home roughly £62k!!!! listen, if your serious about tis drop me a mail, and i'll speak to some of my old US collegiate network, jon stroud, ian gizer, aaron bandrané (pronounced ban-DRAW-NAy) they are now all the many fucking movers in NYC. god, i love that place. daft eh? in fact i'm just off to CON-Tel with aaron ban-DRAW-NAy now for the fucking hell of it...what's the eastern seaboard time now???

Carver - dude I need what your drinkin ;) I think that was the best post ever lol.
epill - i like your thinkin'. Ain't nothing wrong with having a plan and sticking to it. U really do have to demand the reviews & holiday not to mention benefits within 3 months cause they won't do it otherwise. Your exactly right. Where you work at?
irish - u explained it ;)
