you're fine going straight to 10.4
but you might have to back your shit up, format the drive and reinstall on a 'zero'd drive'.
wait to see if anyone else got any wisdom tho,

Is a legal copy or someone elses pb install disk or something? Could make a difference.

don't do it! Tiger sucks!

make sure it's the correct OS for the mac. Doesn't Powerbook and towers have different install discs?
- acescence0
when tiger first came out, machines shipped w/ 10.3 installed and a disk for 10.4, but it would only install if it found a valid 10.3 install already there. it will tell you this though, not just fail inexplicably.
if it's indeed a full 10.4 install, it may be the machine. what model is it? i've never gotten a stable 10.4 on an old G4 tower, though it's supposed to work.

i've got 10.4 on an old dual 450 g4.
runs absolutely fine. (infact better than on my g5 at work!

i always do an erase and install with OS's. you're on the right page though, backup, erase, install.

on a 400mhz G4 i got that same error 3 times in a row, and then the 4th time it worked. def some voodoo going on.
