Looking for ideas for cool office furniture - within reason of course $
The owner is considering the Knoll a3 pods, but i feel like they may too 'spacey' and confining - and expensive: http://www.knoll.com/a3i/main.ht…
restored/rennovated carriage house of a mansion near downtown. exposed brick walls, new hardwood floors - would like to combine modern with natural materials if possible

Yep - thats one of my fav herman miller setups too - i like the noise cancelling modules too
that vitra stuff is also nice - the site is horribly arranged however, hard to find options

Those Knoll workstations look like they just waste space on top of looking like you are in some sort of simulator or maybe some sort of lame Jetson's workstation. A fine example of over-design.
The Herman Miller setup looks sexier, more professional, far more practical and I'll bet price cheaper.

I have a basic ikea desk for my home office and love it too
