The blue laws are a vestige of the legal imposition of religion. According to Wikipedia, Puritan colonists first imposed blue laws in the 17th Century, and blue laws in Texas banned Sunday sales of pots, pans and washing machines. Houghton Mifflin describes "Sunday restriction on such activities as retail sales, general labor, liquor sales, boxing, hunting, or barbering, as well as polo, cockfighting, or clam digging." Wikipedia suggests the blue laws were inspired by Constantine's directive of 321 A.D. restricting work on Sunday.

yeah i actually thought it was illegal in the u.s. for cars to be sold on sunday. something with all banks being closed and financing.
sunday is the best time to hit the lots though and look at cars without some douchbag salesguy with a bad mustache and suit hounding you.

thats actually really funny the CO law... i was born and raised in Denver until i moved to nola, and everytime i go back, it such a ridiculous chore to get beer or wine for sunday cuz everything's closed. its like salt lake city. Although, bars are open, so at least the mile high's got that.

in a few minutes i'm going to go out and clean up the mess some drunk left in my front yard.
i think the story was in the 'overly drunk' thread.
basically some drunk hopped the curb and smashed into a tree in my front yard friday night. plastic and glass everywhere.

story of my life, mnix. never, ever failed- would plan a dinner party or whatever for a sunday and 99% of the time would *always* forget to stock up on saturday. pissed me off to no end.
solved that little probelm by getting a liquor distibutor license. : )

Denver's laws are nothing compared to post-Katrina, military infested late 2005 laws of New Orleans where you had to cross over county ("parish") lines to buy beers at bars for $2 / bottle in Jefferson parish and then try and cross back into Orleans parish past lines of National Guard hummers and m16s.
That shit was a pure adrenaline rush like exiting / entering the Gaza strip.

I'll hit up things like the Doubledoor for live music. Subterranean for some music and drinks. Moda only on a rare occasion as a good friend works the door and sets me up in the vip in the back, so i don't have to deal with all the people. liars club i'll go to a few times a month and rok when i'm in the mood for $2 mickeys big mouths and a night of hanging out with the owner and friend dave draiman.
hm.... where else?!? once in a great while i'll get dragged to red no 5, but i haven't been there in a few months.
