Should be fun - industrial age of steam and all that...

Actually, my kettle went on the blink yesterday, I left it on, went outside, came back and the auto off switch hadn't switched off, the whole place was like a sauna.

like it, lol.
ive put most of your comments together and drawn up some ideas for the identity.
i wish to avoid all the cliches and create a more traditional yet modern approach to the brand, focusing heavily on typography of the particular era.
what do you think?

in response to digilee.
i use this place to get creative critiscm on projects that im working on the title boring brief came around because i have no particular interest in steam, i was looking for people who do.

dude, i honestly see this as an awesome opportunity. i personally find ID work as one of the most rewarding aspects of being a designer. while this one might not be the most 'exciting' on first glace, it still has allllllllllll the same atributes and qualities w/ it's audience as a Nike or Virgin.
i see a great opportunity to play off the aesthetics of the era when this topic was at it's prime- in UK and across the EU. some awesome artifacts like schedules design, signage, engineering markers on the parts/pieces of the machines, drawings/blueprints of deisgns, ect could all be referenced and used for inspiration. i am not going to say that the creative will be as simple to tap as say the Nike example, but then again- ost of that shit looks the same just with a different model in a slightly different pose w/ the next coolest photog shooting it. catch my drift?
good luck and i will be stoked to see the results or progress you post! : )

thanks madirish for your comments.
I personally agree that creating a good identity is one of the most rewarding parts of design.
All the attributes that you have recommended is all inspiration i have taken into account. I am currently focusing on the old typo that appeared on the wrought iron signs on the sides of steam road vehicles.
kind regards.
