snuggles, I would have thought you to be a Ghost fan, do you like the stuff he has done with Doom?
- ********0
actually screw that, that guy's pretty good
- smrz0
Damn - 7 dollars? That is cheap.
iTunes was 11.99.but yo, Leave Kanye out of this. You can't lump him into the same group as ShittyFitty. That's just wrong. He actually made Rockafella legitimate hiphop.
Helped make JayZ's Black Album a banger. And he's down with the Roots, Common, Kweli, Mos, etc., etc., ect.But yeah - support the real. Buy that shit.

It's ok, it's a very subjective area, the emcee, either you like the guys voice, flow and delivery or you don't. Not much grey area. GF just doesn't do it for me. There's guys like Prozack Turner from Foreign Legion that I feel similarly about. He's a great emcee, smart lyrics and great production behind him, but I can't take a whole album of him...
I haven't actually purchased much new hip hop recently, the last albums I bought were King Geedorah, Cunninglynguists, MED and Diverse. Out of those the MF LP is the weakest by far...

Well, if you're talking about emcees, than you can't really blame Doom for King Geedorah. He produced it, but appears only like two or three times on the whole thing. How's MED? Haven't heard it, but it seems like it would be good. Madlib, J-Dilla, Just Blaze.... hot beats. But how's MED's flow?
If you want to hear some new good shit - check out the new Talib Kweli - "Right About Now". And also:
MainFlow.
Madvillainy.
J-Dilla - Donuts.
Madlib - BeatKonducta. All new. All good.
- mr_snuggles0
The production is good, probably most reminiscent of a couple tracks on Operation Doomsday, which is still my favorite Doom album, Madvillainy is good too. The MED album has 4-5 great tracks and the rest is mediocre. He's a really nice guy though, before I moved overseas I had the opportunity to smoke a joint with him and Madlib. The latter being pretty arrogant, but for good reason I suppose...
If you're feeling the Fishscale record, you'll probably like the MED...
I just downloaded Donuts and it's pretty nice. I've also got a few BeatKonducta 7"s which are good, the Movie Scenes album is pretty good overall.
I dunno, both the Cunninglynguist and Diverse albums are better still...
But the new Five Deez is pretty shitty, maybe 2 or 3 good tracks...
- smrz0
Yeah, I feel like Five Deez is TOO artsy (watch what I say around here) for hiphop. I mean, I know there's all this "hiphop is an art form" shit all the time, but so is grafitti - and grafitti is street. So is good hiphop. Street. Raw. Nasty break-neck beats with smart, spontaneous lyrics. Anytime it's too thought-out or "composed" I start to not like it.
Donuts and BeatKonducta are good, but every time I listen, I'm like, damn I wish there was some spittin on this shit. Freestyle fodder, I guess.
So MED is to Ghostface as....?????
- mr_snuggles0
I know what you mean about artsy and well they are, the lyricism and delivery is somewhat 'conceptual' but ultimately it's because they're not the best MC's, although Pase Rock shines on his own with Nujabes...
But the first EP 'Bluelight Special' has some brilliant tracks on it as does 'Slow Children Playing' but Kinkynasti was the start of the end...
Both Donuts and any of Madlibs Beatkonducta records are just filler, good, but still filler to keep the releases coming out and staying in the limelight. I would never pay money for these...
hmmm, I can't actually compare, but if you want on Monday I can post the MED album for you. I just don't have .mp3's at home...
here's a mix I made about a 1.5 ago, it's not great, but it'll give you an idea of where I'm coming from...

i love the fact that ghostface is still lovin that dirty crate diggin production for his beats and hasn't gone all neptunes on us. love it.
and big respect for using doom/dilla.

"...who can only learn from a billycllub spankin'"
true that.

I am very new to this style of music but I enjoyed those songs very much!
- canuck0
I don't really think that much of it.
- macphisto0
"Whip You With A Strap" is fantastic!
- macphisto0
Does anyone have links to albums like this or by Ghostface so that I can acclimate myself to this music? I love it!
- canuck0
wu-tang and its affiliates. Just do a google. Ghostface hasn't evolved much in my opinion.
- johndiggity0
a lot of the same samples as the new j dilla / donuts.

(Mar 31 06, 13:51)If by a lot, you mean 2, then yeah. J Dilla produced 2 tracks on Fishscale, which both appeared first on Donuts, in short form.
