Use mozillas thunderbird for email, works just like OE but so much better and safer:

k.. just for the record i've been previously advised NOT to change any PayPal account info via paypal.com emails.
if you're worried about it log in directly via their website.

I stopped using email years ago.

yep, defiantly didn't click the link in the email. The email they had was one I only use here. Big red flag.

just ignore the email or refer to Paypal itself.
I've referred about 6 of those emails and have started to ignore the rest that come in.
Paypal will never contact you unless you have recently accessed the account for a transaction.

horton. i, for a very short period of time was using a different email address ONLY for nt. it was used no where else.
i got on a few people one day who were spamming the pbs and the next thing i know i'm getting at least one email a day from 'paypal' just like the ones you described.
so i junk the address and go back to my current address and wouldn't you know it, i'm getting a ton of spam right now.
it's fucking bullshit.

yeah ive been getting an increase in spam emails labeled from Paypal lately as well... just google the title of the email and you'll see how common it is...
Also, just hover over the link - you'll be able to tell if it's clicking to paypal or some other shadiness.

(Jan 24 06, 20:42)sometimes the links still look legitimate, but they have some onclick="" hidden javascript ... if you are concerned, type www.paypal.com in your browser yourself, its silly to blindly click on links.

Makes me feel a bit uneasy, especially since this is the first time I put all my account info online (so that I can buy things using PayPal). I definitely won't be clicking any of those emails though. Thankfully I haven't gotten any suspicious ones from Paypal. However, I have been getting a lot of other spam. Still, it's not as much as I used to get at Hotmail.
If you don't know who it's from and there's an attachment included in the email, DELETE.

someone purchased my vaio using a hacked paypal account. After I shipped my laptop overseas ($1700), paypal retracted the funds, and I got f*cked.

I get a lof of spam now too, not just from paypal. I think there was a thread talking about this a while ago, citing the google adsense shiz

Email seeking robots are quite intelligent, they can fill in forms etc. After all, there are people working on those for profit all the time. NT serves our emails unprotected, so even the simplest script can grab them. I have a few emails and the one listed on NT receives over 300% more spam than the other ones together. Bummer? Bummer.
Good antispam tip: disable live image loading in your email software (OE doesn't support this). Image files quite often have unique triggers attached to inform the spammer that someone picked up the email, so he knows the address is active and can be used for further spamming.

ouch.
did you get your laptop back?
- visualplane0
No, but I wasted a lot of time on the phone with them. They usually had an attitude because they get complaints on a regular basis. Online fraud is the number ONE compaint in America.

we get like 100 of the PayPal scam emails per day... you just gotta filter it..

I get fake paypal emails ALL the tiime... I also forward them to spoof@... One thing that usually lets you know it's actually from paypal is that the email will say Dear "Your Name" and not Dear "Paypal User".
Also, just hover over the link - you'll be able to tell if it's clicking to paypal or some other shadiness.
